The TIEG Consortium has triumphed in securing a pivotal Framework Contract for the Mid-Term review of the Union for the Mediterranean (UfM) Ministerial Declarations on Energy & Climate. This significant project is funded by the European Union, in particular the European Commission’s Directorate General for Neighbourhood and Enlargement Negotiations.

The Mediterranean region, grappling with pressing challenges ranging from governance issues to socio-economic and environmental concerns, has now found a dedicated ally in TIEG Consortium. The climate change hotspot, warming 20% faster than the global average, as highlighted in the 2020 Mediterranean Experts on Climate and Environmental Change first Mediterranean Assessment Report (MAR1), underscores the urgency of this initiative.

The overarching goal of the project zeroes in on climate action, emphasizing not only progress evaluation but also proposing strategies to amplify the realization of the Declaration’s aspirations in the years to come. Furthermore, the assignment will culminate in recommendations for updating the current Ministerial Declarations, incorporating the latest developments and insights in the dynamic field of energy and climate action.

Commencing in January 2024, the implementation of this crucial project is set to conclude by July 2024. TIEG Consortium’s engagement in this initiative marks a significant stride toward addressing the complex challenges facing the Mediterranean region, offering hope and concrete actions to combat the escalating climate crisis.
