Inception Workshop: Stakeholder Engagement for Uranium Legacy Remediation in Central Asia (Phase III)

The project “Stakeholder Engagement for Uranium Legacy Remediation in Central Asia” (Phase III) aims to reduce the risks posed by uranium legacy sites to people, livelihoods, and the environment. This will be achieved by raising awareness and promoting people-centered, gender-sensitive, and risk-informed solutions within local communities in Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan. The project is funded by the European Union and implemented jointly by OSCE and UNDP.

The main objective of the inception workshop is to review current interventions in the region, present and discuss the third phase of the project, and establish partnerships, coordination mechanisms, and collaborative approaches for effective implementation.

The workshop on 17-18 April 2025 in Tashkent brings together delegates from the three Central Asian countries—Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan—along with representatives from local communities, NGOs, development partners, and other key stakeholders. Approximately 30 participants are expected, including officials from the three governments, the European Union Delegation (EUD), the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE), the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), and other involved partners.
