EU Support to FMCIDE for Studies in support of the 90,000km fibre optic network & Improved Digital Literacy in Nigeria

We are delighted to share an exciting win under the Framework Contract (FWC) SEA 2023 LOT 5, marking a significant milestone in advancing science, technology, innovation, and digital transformation. Nigeria is charting an ambitious course to become a leading digital economy in Africa, driven by visionary efforts from the Federal Ministry of Communication and Digital Economy.

At the forefront of this transformation are two flagship projects/groundbreaking initiatives: the expansion of the fibre optic infrastructure – an impressive 90,000 kilometers across the country, and the implementation of a National Digital Literacy Plan that aspires to raise digital literacy levels to 70% by the year 2027. These initiatives are integral to Nigeria’s National Broadband Plan and Digital Economy Policy and Strategy, both of which are vital for fostering digital inclusion, nurturing innovation, and enhancing global competitiveness in the country.

The global objective of this project is to champion a human-centric digital transformation across Nigeria. To achieve this, the project focuses on two key specific objectives: expanding broadband coverage nationwide in alignment with the Broadband Alliance Whitepaper and updating and executing a national plan to elevate digital literacy to 70% by 2027.

With a project duration of 365 days and an anticipated start date in January 2025, this project represents a transformative leap toward building a more inclusive, innovative, and digitally empowered Nigeria. It signals a future where technology and education pave the way for sustainable development and global leadership in the digital age.
